Variety of Colorado
The mission of Variety, The Children’s Charity of Colorado, is to provide life-saving and life-enriching assistance to children challenged by physical and mental disabilities, poverty, abuse and neglect.
Through grants of equipment and technology, cultural enrichment programs, outreach activities and other donations, Variety of Colorado provides access to the greater community for Colorado kids isolated by their challenges.
Variety focuses on helping children with mobility challenges, providing those in need with the adaptive equipment they require to leave the sidelines and participate in their worlds. Under the “Variety Freedom Kids” banner, we deliver durable medical equipment such as adaptive bicycles, wheelchairs, gait trainers and speech assistive devices to children whose mobility and community access would otherwise be severely limited. Children up to the age of 21, who do not qualify for Medicaid or lack adequate private insurance, are eligible to apply for assistance under this program.
At-risk kids in Colorado benefit from “Variety Future Kids” programs. Students in low-income elementary schools earn the opportunity to receive new bikes, locks and helmets. Each year, deserving students are nominated by their teachers, and learn philanthropy and leadership by creating a community-wide fundraiser to “pay it forward” for the next school’s recipients.
Variety Future Kids programs also host special events, including an annual Holiday Party for 500 at-risk kids, movies and sports outings.
With the added networking strength of innovative partnerships, referring agencies and healthcare providers, families with special needs find support and assistance not otherwise available to them through Variety of Colorado and its programs.
We believe that when children are able to overcome physical or socio-economic barriers, they invest in themselves, their peers and their communities. They break a pattern of disengagement and empower themselves to try other new and rewarding activities. Our programs offer children ways to experience such challenges and successes, whether it is gaining muscle strength and coordination, or riding safely to school on a their first new bike.
Dedicated men and women give their time, talent and resources to make Variety work. Variety, The Children’s Charity of Colorado, is an organization of volunteers who enjoy the great feeling that helping a child gives them – the reward of knowing that because of your efforts, you have made a difference in the life of a child.
